The China National Development & Reform Commission has recently ratified a ¡°Special Research Program on the Production of Important State Technical Equipment¡± for implementation over a three-year period. The emphasis of the program is placed on the research and production of, among other things, super-large mineral sand vessels, 300,000-ton oil tanks and large self-lifting drilling platforms which are most urgently needed at the present stage. The mineral sand vessels to be developed will be 325-345 meters long, 54-60 meters wide, with a draft of 20-23 meters and a carriage capacity of 300,000-360,000 dwt, some of which will also be adapted to the deep-water channel of Yangtze River upon completion. By the middle part of the 11th five-year plan period, China will be able to design and build super-large mineral sand vessels all on its own. |
