PSA and AP Moller-Maersk Eye Yangshan Stake

¡¡¡¡PSA International and AP Moeller-Maersk are among the foreign companies eyeing a possible investment in the third phase of China¡¯s Yangshan deepwater port development offshore of Shanghai.
¡¡¡¡Shanghai International Port Group president Chen Xuyuan confirmed the two companies were among the firms that had approached the port developer.
¡¡¡¡APM Terminals is already one of the five operators, along with Hutchison Port Holdings and Shanghai International Port Group, in the second stage which is due to begin operations in the next few weeks. The facility will handle transpacific and intra-Asian traffic that is being moved from Waigaoqiao container terminal.
¡¡¡¡Phase ¢òwill have a capacity to handle about 2.4 million TEU a year at its four berths which will have a total quay length of 1.4-kilometre.
¡¡¡¡Phase ¢ó, which is under construction, will have seven berths and cover an area of 4-square-kilometre, although the facility is not expected to come into operation until at least 2010.
¡¡¡¡Dredging work has also started to create phase ¢ô, which will be built next to phase¢ò.
