¡¡¡¡Yantai has set the goal to build up a regional large-scale hub port for 2008, reserving approximately RMB 1.94 billion to develop the port and shipping industry in Yantai.
¡¡¡¡As arranged at the Yantai City Port and Shipping Seminar, Yantai will input roughly RMB 1.94 billion into its 18 new berths or berth supplementing projects. Some 24 over 10,000-ton berths, and 4 deepwater channels will be built with a total length of 46.28 km. Yantai aims firstly to equip 17 new berths with basic functions to increase throughput capacity by 22.4 million tons. At the same time, Yantai will launch European routes as soon as possible, exploring South Korea and Japan routes, and further developing existing routes to western US. Additionally, domestic and foreign enterprises are encouraged to construct and operate wholly-owned or joint venture port terminals, with Yantai Port's Western Part, Zhifu Bay Container Terminal and Longkou Port Area highly recommended targets.
