Sinotrans absorbs Lufeng

¡¡¡¡China's Sinotrans Container Lines will absorb Lufeng Shipping, another boxship operator in the Sinotrans group, in late June, in a bid to achieve economies of scale and streamline its business structure, writes Sandra Tsui in Hong Kong.
¡¡¡¡A sales representative of Lufeng Shipping in Qingdao said the consolidation between the two lines started about a month ago, and Lufeng Shipping will officially become part of Sinotrans Container Lines from June 28th.
¡¡¡¡Until now, under the same parent company, the two lines have been offering independent services on the Japan-China route. Lufeng Shipping currently operates two China-Japan services, one to Kanto (the area around Tokyo) and one to Kansai (the Osaka region), with three vessels, including two self-owned 400 TEU boxships. The two loops will continue after the merger, said the sales executive.
¡¡¡¡Xu Qiumin, general manager of Sinotrans Container, the boxline flagship of the largest logistics service provider in China, previously said that the group had decided to merge subsidiaries other than Sinotrans Containers that are engaged in the boxline business, such as Lufeng, in order to seek economies of scale.
