¡¡¡¡An official from Xiamen Port Authority recently said that in 2009 the city will come up with RMB 24 million to subsidize port and shipping business, in order to open up new sources of supply from the hinterland and to help them to cope with the financial crisis.
¡¡¡¡The RMB-24-million fund will be used to subsidize international transit, internal extension lines, domestic trade routes and sea-rail combined transport.
¡¡¡¡These businesses are mainly in four directions: Shantou in the south, northern part of Fujian Province and into the west the hinterland of Xiamen Port will be constantly extended by rail. In addition, Xiamen City will also encourage and develop the Taiwan-oriented international transport transmitted via Xiamen Port.
